What we do

The Vale Photographic Club is friendly and welcoming and one of the oldest photographic clubs in Wales. Its home is in Ystradowen Village Hall, near Cowbridge. It meets on alternate Thursdays at 7.30 pm and all are welcome to come along and see for themselves.

The programme varies from week to week and includes expert talks, discussions, competitions and socialising. Feel free to come along and find out about us! Check https://thevalephotographicclub.co.uk/programme/ for the dates that we meet.

More experienced photographers will find like-minded people that they can discuss their hobby with and show off their images, while those starting out will be able to learn new skills for getting that perfect photograph. Occasional practical sessions are a great opportunity to practise photography while socialising!

Our ‘competition’ evenings are now very informal. We no longer invite ‘judges’ to critique our images, as we feel that each photograph expresses an individual’s view of what they saw and felt, whether captured by a Leica or a smartphone. We do have a ‘popular vote’ on submitted images, but we choose not to regularly give opinions on what might ‘improve’ a picture. However, we have a number of members who have gained many successes in more traditional competitions, and who would be a good source of advice.
