The New Year of 2025 was welcomed in by the members with Competition 3. There was a good turnout and members chose favourite images submitted by Nick Craddock, Mike Davies, Pam Lewis, Mike Hunt, Nick Thornton, Geoff Poole, Mike Baker, Jaydie O’Garro and Liza Webb.
This was held on 14 November. We had an excellent response to the call for DPIs, but the print entries were down in number. Nevertheless, there were some excellent images. Favourite images were submitted by Mike Hunt, Nick Craddock, Mike Davies, Geoff Poole, Nick Thornton, Norman Walker, Liza Webb, and Patrick Davies.
We had a record number of entries for the first competition of 2024-25. Recognition goes to Liza Webb, Nick Craddock, Keith Baker, Cled Lewis, Jim Wild, Wendy Walker, Geoff Poole and Mike Davies for their entries, which were voted as ‘Favourites’.
Awards for the Photographer of the Year (POTY), and the Plate Award (open to those not list in the POTY Awards) were presented after the AGM during the 6 June club night. Every year the Welsh Photographic Federation (WPF) gives a number of awards to images submitted to the year’s Welsh Salon. This year, eight of the Vale PC’s members had 28 acceptances for the Salon, and awards were given to Nick Craddock, Mike Davies, Peter Dennis, Tom Dunlop, Pam Lewis, Geoff Poole and Nick Thornton.
Competition 6 carried on with the successful run of the ‘new’ style events, featuring voting by members as an alternative to judges. Peter Dennis kindly gave his personal critique of images. Those who had submitted ‘favourite’ images were: Nick Craddock, Nick Thornton, Norman Walker, Mike Davies, Peter Dennis, Mike Hunt, Liza Webb, and Tom Dunlop.

This month’s members’ critique featured ‘favourite’ images from Nick Craddock and Tony Tarlton (colour print); Nick Craddock, Mike Davies, Cled Lewis, Nick Thornton and Tony Tarlton (monochrome print); and Peter Dennis, Nick Craddock and Jim Wild (DPI).
As usual, Mike Davies hosted this excellent evening. The overall winner was Guy Butler-Madden with his enchanting trio of nature-inspired images.
The first of the Club’s competitions took place on 5 October. As usual now, this was a critique with votes cast by members. Colour prints submitted by Nick Craddock, Geoff Poole, Jim Wild and Mike Davies were voted as ‘Favourites’.
