Three in Harmony

Another evening of this successful event run by Mike Davies.

The idea of this ‘print only’ exercise is to display three prints together such that they harmoniously blend into a single unified work.

For those wishing to progress to distinctions such as those of the Royal Photographic Society, the ability to produce images of an identical quality and to present them as a panel of work is of the essence. The competition is a useful precursor to such endeavours.

The images used may illustrate a story, a process, a location, a series of related objects or any other appropriate subject from which a harmonious result is derived.

The images should be presented separately as mounted prints or together on one mounting board. In the former case, the positioning of each print in relation to the others on the stand is of considerable consequence.  In the latter case, the positioning of the three prints on the board can have significant relevance to the outcome. The images on the mounting board may be placed immediately adjacent to one another i.e. with no spaces should this be appropriate to the desired outcome.

The mounting board colour also has a bearing on the degree of harmony achieved.

It is important to recognise that image quality in terms of tonality, noise, sharpness, paper type and all the other variables that apply to the appearance of prints, should be identical in all images in order to enhance the level of harmony they exhibit.

There are no limitations to the shape and orientation of the prints. They need not be the same size as each other nor do they need to be square or rectangular or even mounted in the same plane..

Colour, monochrome and black and white prints are all acceptable. Important   The images must not be derived from the division into three of one original print or image.

There will be a prize and a trophy, good luck and enjoy!
